The purpose of the “Air Bleed” feature is to
eliminate trapped air from within the hydraulic cylinder upon
start up. Air bubbles in a hydraulic cylinder system are
dangerous, and if not removed, can put all of the hydraulic
components of the system at risk for potential failure.
The air bleed feature is an optional feature that can be selected
on all Peninsular Model LH low pressure hydraulic cylinders. By selecting this
feature (with a /C in the ordering code) you may configure a
standard “air bleed" design that will show a hole drilled through
the barrel of the cylinder with an air bleed screw located in the
boss which is welded above the bleed hole in the cylinder barrel.
This tapped hole and screw is located near the cylinder head and
can be ordered in any location coinciding with cylinder head
positions #1, #2, #3 and #4 (see illustration #1 below).
There are other ways (not detailed in this configurator) to
manufacture an air bleed on a hydraulic cylinder – Peninsular will
do this at the customers request:
-
Air bleed tapped hole and screw in the
front and rear cylinder head or at one end only
(see illustration #2 below).
-
Air bleed tapped hole with a captive
screw in the front and rear cylinder head or at one
end only.
-
Our standard air bleed screw is
1/8" NPT.
Other optional threads are - 2 SAE and - 1/8" BSPP.
Should you want the non standard air bleed
design please contact Peninsular and our engineering staff will be
pleased to configure this design for you. |
